with strangers, is playful and doesn't require a lot of grooming? I just want a dog that is playful, friendly, small, doesn't need a lot of grooming, or a really thick coat ( parental alergies.)Or long-haired.

Every puppy CAN be exactly what you're looking for. I have one that is a riot. In my personal lifestyle she is easy to have in a city-home, LOVES it when strangers come over, plays like it's the first time she saw a toy, I brush her weekly but for her coat she only needs a good, long, thorough bursh twice a year. She is extremely friendly and though doesn't have either a long coat or a short coat, has no effect on our allergies whatsoever. She sleeps on the bed at night, climbs into my lap when I'm watching tv, sits peacefully at the table floor waiting for a kid to drop a piece of food. She's an overall wonderful house pet that I wouldn't trade for the world. She'll be 4 years old this year and topped 147 lbs a few months ago. She is the way she is because she has received proper care, training and socialization.

The kind of dog you are looking for can be any you pick from anywhere (I highly recommend your local animal shelter). ALL dogs can be exactly what we want. We just have to be willing to offer the proper time and effort into their care (being socializing and training mainly).

But, anyway, as for allergies you may want to consider a Boston Terrier or a Chinese Pug. Slightly larger I recommend an American Staffordshire Terrier or a Bulldog.
